The Latest News from the Wondrous World of Marketing

Does marketing stump you?

Leave you scratching your head a bit as to what the best practices and strategies are?

You’re not alone.

Marketing is a huge arena and there are dozens of sections and subsections you can focus on.

I know, I have a Marketing degree and would also get asked what I wanted to do with the degree and it was always one of the most difficult questions to answer because the truth was that there were endless possibilities.

But struggle no more. I read it all, so you don’t have it.

A few marketing tidbits that have crossed my desk in the recent weeks that you need to know about:

1. Wondering if running your own Facebook group is a good marketing strategy for your business?

The answer isn’t as black and white, but more of “it depends”. Read this recent article from Ramit Sethi’s strategic community manager on knowing when to build a free FB community for your business.

2. Ever wonder what’s considered a ‘good’ email open rate?

MailerLite released a new performance study this year, detailing just that, by industry. Plus, it includes actionable tips to improving your number. Read it here.

3. The GDPR is coming!

What’s the GDPR you ask? GDPR is short for General Data Protection Regulation, and is an EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union, and also addresses the use of personal data outside the EU. The law goes into enforceable effect this month on May 25, 2018.

Even if your business doesn’t reside in the EU, you’re subscribers and clients might, so you need to be up to speed.

My mentor put together one of the most helpful posts in summarizing the new regulation and helpful resources to get your business up to par. Check it out here.

Want to know the non-legal take on the new regulation? Then this recent post from Seth Godin is a must read. And in typical Seth fashion, it’s short, to the point and full of goodness.

There you have – the top three updates to what’s going on in the land of Marketing this month.

Don’t forget to come back here and share your questions, comments, and insights on these curated tips.
